About Richmond, KY

The city was named after Richmond, Virginia and was founded in 1798 by Colonel Miller. Miller was a British American who served with the rebels in the revolutionary war.

Richmond is located in Madison Country in the Bluegrass region. Richmond's population is about 36,200 people. The city operates under a council-manager government. It is governed by a mayor and four city commissioners elected by residents.

Richmond has numerous parks. Lake Reba Recreational Complex is the most prominent park of Richmond. Many of the down business district structures are Victorian-styled—including the Glyndon Hotel.
