About Lexington, KY

The city is famous for horse breading and claims the title "horse capital of the world." Lexington lies in the Bluegrass country, is home to the University of Kentucky, and an important economic and cultural center. The county has beautiful fertile soil with plenty of limestone in its soil.

Post-its were invented in the city of Kentucky. There are about 320,000 people living in Lexington, KY. The city encompasses 285 square miles. Also, Lexington is home to America's Top 100 Beer Bars. The Lexington Public Library is home to the world's largest ceiling clock—a five-story Foucault pendulum and frieze. The clock was designed by Adalin Wichman. Wichman was an artist from Lexington. He passed away in 2013.

About every 6 years, Bobby Flay comes to check out Thoroughbreds he owns at Ashford Stud or purchases horses at Keeneland Sales. Over 2000 people attended Man O'War's funeral in 1947. The memorial dedicated to O'War is located in Kentucky Horse Park.

One of the most famous local dishes is Burgoo. Burgoo is beef based dish.

The city is home to the headquarters for the Jockey Club. The club is a nationally recognized organization. It prides itself on the integrity of Thoroughbred breeding and racing. They even approve and review the names of every registered horse.

The city has best bourboun bars in the South. In fact, the Bluegrass tavern has over 250 bourbon flavors to choose from.
